The SetList Program (http://www.setlists.net/?se...)
On August 1st 1942, Jerry Garcia was born to Jose and Ruth Garcia. He formed the band the Grateful Dead in 1965, which would continue on for three decades, forever changing both America’s music and culture. Originating in the San Francisco bay area, the Grateful Dead performed over 2,355 concerts with more than 22.2% of their concerts being played in the bay area and 38.3% in California, preferring the Winterland Arena in San Francisco over all other venues. As expected, most concerts were performed on the weekends, though no extreme seasonal trend exists. An estimated 9.3% of Americans attended a rock concert in 2005. —Devon

They decided to go on a hiatus.

"With the exception of 1975, when the band was on hiatus and played only four concerts together, the Grateful Dead toured regularly around the USA from the winter of 1965 until July 9, 1995" -www.wikipedia.org

Devon - this is your uncle Jim. My band ,The Sensations, had the pleasure of playing at a gig with the Warlocks, (who later renamed their band the Greatful dead) in 1964. Needless to say they were much better than us. Small world huh?
