Scrabulous.com was launched by brothers Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla in India in 2005 and rocketed to popularity two years later after they released a version as a free "add-on" application for Facebook. The chart shows around 4 million users installed the application & more than 500,000 people played the online word game daily on Facebook.
This July, toy and game manufacturers Hasbro and Mattel, which share ownership of the Scrabble trademark, forced Facebook to remove Scrabulous over copyright and trademark issues from US and Canadian Facebook pages. The creators of Scrabulous have wasted no time in tweaking the game and have launched a new tile-based game called "Wordscraper". —apurba
