What a completely disingenuous graph, and comments to follow. You have absolutely no reason to think the line would stay flat without Bush.

You probably thought graphs like these (and your site more widely) would help people overcome preconceived notions by showing hard data.

Instead, you're just amplifying people's preconceived notions -- adding legitimacy to them because its now backed up with 'data.'

I can see how you might be upset with what the graph implies, although I'm not sure what about it is disingenuous. I find it fascinating that when the data sat in a table in the terrorism database, no one called it disingenuous, while as soon as it was correctly represented on a graph, it elicited such strong reactions. This is why I'm so excited to be building Swivel. Thank you for sharing your view. Hey Dmitry, this graph is absolute garbage. Try extending the graph backwards a couple more centuries and maybe you'll have something that puts the facts in any kind of reasonable perspective. When terrorists threatened my airliner in 1993, it had nothing to do with Bush. Are you forgetting the countless hijackings, bombings, and assassinations in Israel/Palestine, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Egypt, that have claimed countless victims for centuries? LEARN THE HISTORY OF TERRORISM AND STOP BLAMING EVERYTHING ON BUSH, YOU DISINGENOUS ANTI-AMERICAN BASTARD!

I think you should consider the Clinton years, 1990-2000. I'm sure you would find the graph head the other way. Clinton's crimminal negligence to deal with these people, terrorists when he had the chance just reminds me how ignorant people like you are and how ungrateful you really are. Wake up and smell the roses. You can have you holy moment and group hug these people but when they blow you up with a bomb they have straped to their bodies maybe they will share their one of their 72 virgins with you. I updated the data to include stuff from the 90s (I'm working on getting all of the data on the site into this data set), but the graph still shows a steady increase in terrorist attacks in the new millenium. Maybe this is simply because suicide attacks and things of the sort are becoming somewhat of a trend for terrorists? I'm also not sure how complete the source is: but I'm pretty sure it has documented terrorist attacks since 1968 pretty throughly.

I can only agree he should be impeached but would perfer him than Dick Chaney or speaker of the house. The graph does show a good trend but implying a relation to George Bush is miss leading and wrong. The same correlation could be placed with me getting my first car in 2000 since then there has been a rise in terrerist acts so is there a relationship?

I wasn't meaning to imply that the cause of the increase in terrorism was directly related to George Bush (although frankly I would not be surprised, but this relationship cannot ever be determined, only surmised), but simply that it's interesting to see how terrorist incidents have been on the rise ever since George Bush decided to wage this so-called "war on terrorism": i would assume that would imply that his (the us government's and military's) efforts were in decreasing the number of incidents.

yes, the plan is to decrease the number of terrorist attacks, and who knows maybe they did decrease the number of attacks, you cannot tell from this or any graph because they cannot show the possibilities of what could have happened. so there is absolutly no way of determining wheather or not we have increased or decreased the number of terrorist attacks we can only see that there are more compared to 10 years ago, not more compared to today but in an alternate reality where we did not go to war.
