it doesn't take much to see what's been driving Apple's stock price...

Indeed. This matched way more closely than I thought it would when I was preparing the graph.

Apple says that there is going to be a halo effect from iPods to Macs, but I'm guessing it will be barely noticeable.

iPods are hot now, but in the long-run everything is going to phones. Even with 80 million iPods sold over the past three years, there are still hundreds of millions of phones sold each year.

Blackboard: that's why Apple is launching the iPhone. I'm much more tied to my iPod than my phone. It's all about the UI.

Apple's stock price isn't about the iPod, its all about Steve Jobs man. He could demo a brick and people would buy it up.

Apple is getting close to a palm held computer. Just think, iMac, iPhone, iTV, iPod. They know that they aren't a hardware shop anymore, but the design and software trumps everyone.

I've updated the iPod data up to the most recent quarter, but the stock price data wasn't as up to date, otherwise I would extend the graph.

Precisely. A Palm held Computer.

Like a Palm Treo 700. In a few more years, they'll finally have it.
