Forbes.com (http://www.forbes.com/2006/...) and Forbes.com (http://www.forbes.com/2001/...)
The graph shows the highest earning, non-living celebrities comparing 2006 to 2001. Interesting to note that Kurt Cobain, who places first on the highest earning list for 2006, was not even on the 2001 top 13. Nor was Albert Einstein. What made their earnings pick up? According to Forbes, their estates continue to make money by inking deals involving both their work and the rights to use their name and likenesses on merchandise and marketing campaigns. I was surprised to see Kurt Cobain on this list because there hasn't been anything from Nirvana lately. The last 2 releases are "Nirvana" (2002) and "With The Lights Out" (2004).

After following the link to Forbes, I found out his widow Courtney Love sold a 25% stake in his band's song catalog to Primary Wave, a New York music publishing company for $50 million. Now we get to hear Nirvana songs in CSI: Miami and other bullshit. Too bad the existing band members won't get much from this deal. Greedy @#$% Kurt Cobain. Love his music, but what a fcuking @#$%.

If you are wondering why 2pac is not on this list, it's not because he's still alive. It's just because his estate didn't release anything good. I've listened to his unreleased stuff and it's awesome work. But this postmortem productions and duets he never made are bullshit.

2pac made #8 (12 million) in 2003 and #10 (7 million) in 2002.
