Swivel's Vision

Swivel's mission is to make data useful so people share insights, make great decisions and improve lives. In an era of spin, opinion, and apathy about statistics, Swivel is a Web site that makes it easy for everyone to collaborate and explore data together — because better informed people make better decisions: in voting booths, in corporate boardrooms and at neighborhood meetings.

From Publication to Interaction

Over the last ten years many organizations with a mandate to disseminate data have used the Internet to publish their facts and figures online. Today, we are witnessing another powerful wave of innovation that is enabling people from around the world to talk, collaborate and create communities. This wave of innovation is often referred to as Web 2.0. Many organizations have realized they must evolve their thinking from data publication to community interaction.

What is an Official Source?

You may have noticed the Official Source badge on a number of our pages at Swivel. The badge indicates the data you are viewing comes directly from the organization that collected it.

  • Our users know the data can be trusted because it comes directly from the source.
  • Official Sources have great data.

Some organizations are directly uploading their data into Swivel while in other cases Swivel has gathered the data from their Web sites.

How can I find Official Source data at Swivel?

You can see Official Source data by clicking on the Data tab and then selecting Official Source. You can see the Official Source providers by clicking on the People tab and selecting Official Source.

How do I become an Official Source?

If you work for an organization that wants to bring data to Swivel, contact us directly or send an email to data@swivel.com. We’d love to hear from you.
