About Me

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) aims to promote sustainable economic growth among its 56 member countries located throughout Europe, Central Asia and North America. It was set up in 1947 by ECOSOC (the United Nations Economic and Social Council), and is now one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations.

We provide a forum for communication between countries, and broker international agreements in areas such as trade, transport and the environment. We also provide analysis, policy advice and assistance to governments, as well as developing and promoting norms and standards to encourage international cooperation within and outside the region.

Gross Domestic Product per Capita estimates are compiled according to the 1993 version of the System of National Accounts (SNA 1993) for all countries, except Turkey for which the 1968 SNA is still used. Common currency (US$) estimates are computed using purchasing power parities. Purchasing power parity (PPP) is the relative cost of the same representative basket of goods when valued at the domestic prices of two different countries. In other words, PPPs are the rates of currency conversion that equalise the purchasing power of different currencies. PPPs, and not exchange rates, should be used in international comparisons of real income. Malenitah2: How can we know the countries that correspond to this graph? (about 1 year ago)
UNECE: Hi, thanks for your interest. We only loaded our data late last week, and Swivel automatically created a number of graphs, some of which were fairly meaningless. We are going through these to try to improve them. This one now shows average figures for the countries for which we have data. Best regards, UNECE (about 1 year ago)
