Additionally, I have encountered many people who will identify as believing in God, but upon further questioning do not attend Church and only vaguely believe in God, having not really thought about it or given it much weight. There seem to be a lot of people who identify as Christian and believing in God, but are clearly in a different class than fundamentalist evangelist Christians, for example. This survey equates the most apathetic and unsure believer to someone with a stronger belief, and an apathetic atheist to a militant one who has strong philosophical reasons for choosing atheism.
However, in some cases it does seem to be reasonably accurate.
